A mid-spec
LATAM-spec VW T-Cross was spotted without any camouflage or disguise for the
first time this week, by Motor1 Brazil reader Victor Zanini in Sao Paulo,
Brazil. It was officially unveiled just last week.
Volkswagen has
developed the T-Cross in EU-spec, LATAM-spec and CN-spec versions, keeping in
mind the fact the customer requirements vary as per the region. The LATAM-spec
version has a front-end similar to the EU-spec version and a rear-end similar
to the CN-spec version. The distinctive front grille inserts, the silver lower
grille applique carrying T-Cross branding and the unique front bumper design
are the main elements that differentiate it from the other two versions.
At 4,199 mm in
length and 1,568 mm in height, the LATAM-spec version of the VW T-Cross is 92
mm longer and 10 mm taller than the EU-spec version. It has a 2,653 mm
wheelbase, which is 88 mm longer than that of the EU-spec version. The boot
capacity varies between 373 and 420 litres.
Full-LED headlights
with LED daytime running light, 17-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof,
ambient LED lighting, 300-watt Beats sound system with seven speakers including
a subwoofer, Active Info Display fully digital instrument panel and 8-inch
touchscreen infotainment system are the equipment highlights of the LATAM-spec
VW T-Cross.
Three engine
options for the LATAM-spec VW T-Cross are known so far: 1.0L TSI petrol-ethanol
(petrol: 116 PS/200 Nm, ethanol: 128. PS/200 Nm), 1.4L TSI petrol-ethanol
(petrol: 150 PS/250 Nm, ethanol: 150 PS/250 Nm) and 1.6L MSI petrol (110 PS/155
Nm). All engines send the drive to only the front wheels, as an AWD system is
unavailable.
The VW T-Cross will
go on sale in Latin America in 2019. Brazil, the country producing it at the
São José dos Pinhais facility for the region, will begin customer deliveries in
the first half of the year.
