IndianAutosBlog has got it hands on what seem to be
the first-ever images of an uncamouflaged 2019 Maruti Wagon R. The
yet-to-be-unveiled model was spied at its shooting spot in the backdrop of a
waterbody in Panjim, Goa, by IAB reader Mackvin.
The latest set of images successfully reveal a large
DLO and the last-gen Volvo XC60-like tail lights. We've known all this time
that the 2019 Maruti Wagon R won't look anything like its JDM-spec counterpart.
That said, the retention of the tallboy format and the boxy silhouette should
ensure a strong connection with the earlier generations.
The interior is expected to stay airy as ever with
ample headroom and sufficient space for four adults. Additional features in
this generation should include passive keyless entry, push-button start/stop,
steering-mounted audio controls and Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system
with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The safety net across trims
will comprise a driver airbag, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder (SBR),
speed alert system, speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, and
reverse parking sensors.
Powering the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will be an updated
iteration of the K10B 1.0-litre petrol engine. Currently, the three-pot motor
outputs 67 bhp and 90 Nm. The current transmissions, a 5-speed manual and a
5-speed 'AGS' Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), should be carried over. The
Indian-spec model will miss out on the HEARTECT lightweight platform and will
be instead use a more robust version of the current architecture, enabling the
company price the car competitively while complying with the new safety norms.
Reportedly, production of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R
will commence by mid-January 2019. It is expected to have a base price of INR
4.25 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
