The BMW 8 Series
has made its launch debut in Thailand, where it is being offered in a sole
M850i xDrive Coupe variant. It won’t come cheap, as the flagship sports coupe
retails at 12,999,000 baht over there.
For the money, what
you’ll be getting is a 4.4 litre twin-turbo petrol V8 with 530 PS and 750 Nm of
torque. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission is mated to the
engine, with BMW’s rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive system and M sport
differential also present to get power to all four wheels.
The
almost-two-tonne coupe will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds,
and hit a top speed of 250 km/h. The package also includes M Sport brakes and
Adaptive M suspension Professional, which provides active roll stabilisation
and Integral Active Steering – the latter being rear-axle steering.
In terms of the
equipment, the Thailand-spec M850i comes with 20-inch M light alloy Y-spoke
wheels and staggered tyres (245/35 front and 275/30 rear), BMW Laserlight (with
High-beam assistant), M Aerodynamics package, BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow
Line, M rear spoiler, Driving Assistant package.
Moving inside, the
powered, ventilated and heated seats are trimmed in BMW Individual ‘Merino’
leather that is available in three colour schemes depending on the exterior
finish chosen. You’ll also get a BMW Individual headliner in Alcantara
anthracite, ‘CraftedClarity’ glass application, M Sport leather steering wheel,
Live Cockpit Professional, BMW Connected Drive, a Harmon Kardon sound system
and head-head-up display.
