It was revealed last week that Dodge started
developing a mid-engine Viper in the 1990s, surprising car enthusiasts who
started thinking what could have been if they went down that road. After all, the Viper is best
known for its huge front-mounted V10 engine and a hood that seems to stretch
into another dimension. However, perhaps inspired by the news that the Viper
could have been very different, Rain Prisk has rendered up a unique take on an
unlikely version of the Viper: a Shooting Brake.
While very few production cars have ever been sold
in that bodystyle, they continue to capture the imaginations of cars fans
around the world. Consequently, we’re frequently bombarded with renderings
depicting Shooting Brake variants of current cars.
As expected, the Viper Shooting Brake has an
elongated roofline that morphs into a hatch towards the rear of the supercar.
There’s also a small spoiler stretching off the roof and a raked rear window –
and, for good measure, a set of arch-filling wheels.
For the most part, we think a good majority of
front-engine sports cars and supercars look good as Shooting Brakes. And even
though, if the Viper hadn’t been discontinued, this would have never been on
the cards, it doesn’t look half bad.
