There’s no question the S660 roadster is one of the
coolest cars Honda makes, period. Even in standard guise, the
mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive Kei car sends our hearts racing, despite the fact
that it only packs a 63 hp 0.66-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
If you live in Japan, you can have the S660 in a
multitude of special edition versions, the more recent of which is called Trad
Leather. And if you like your S660 to look more old-school, the Neo Classic body
kit inspired by the classic S600 completely transforms the tiny roadster.
While the Neo Classic treatment may not be
everyone’s cup of tea, Honda has further tweaked it for the 2019 Tokyo Auto
Salon (January 11-13). The automaker imagined what an S660 Neo Classic race car
would look like and it appears that designers went all out to create a striking
package.
It’s called the Modulo Neo Classic Racer and it’s
obviously a show car — at least until Honda decides to offer it as a body kit
too. The aggressive-looking front fascia that mimics taped-off headlights is
the car’s defining feature but the bolt-on fender flares and Kammback with
prominent boot lid spoiler also contribute to the remarkable transformation of
the Honda S660.
Exterior tweaks also include the front fender
leather straps, race wheels shod with competition tires, and wing mirrors.
Honda hasn’t yet offered a peek inside the cockpit but we’d expect to see a
roll cage and racing seats in there. We don’t know whether Honda has
any plans with this body kit beyond the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon but we sure hope
we see the Modulo Neo Classic Racer on another occasion.
