Kia is slowly expanding the Ceed lineup into a whole
family of vehicles, with a five-door hatch, a Sportswagon estate and a ProCeed
shooting brake already unveiled, plus a hot GT version. The final piece of the
puzzle is a crossover version, and Paultan spy photographers have sent photographs
of the more rugged version undergoing testing ahead of a full unveiling.
The Ceed crossover isn’t a
full SUV like the Sportage, but neither is it simply a jacked-up hatch with
body cladding – an X-Line model this is not, then. In fact, the car will at
least have a unique rear end and doors, judging by the upswept window line.
Also fitted are roof rails for an even more rough and tumble look.
Expect the finished article to come with most of the
same engines as the rest of the Ceed lineup, including 100 PS 1.4 litre
naturally-aspirated MPi four-cylinder, 120 PS 1.0 litre turbocharged T-GDi
three-cylinder and 140 PS 1.4 litre T-GDi four-cylinder petrol engines, along
with a 1.6 litre CRDi turbodiesel in either 115 PS and 135 PS outputs, paired
to a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
There likely won’t be an all-wheel drive option,
however, nor a 204 PS GT version – the latter is expected to be reserved for
the hatch and ProCeed models.
