Next year, Opel will celebrate 120 years of car
manufacturing and will also launch new electrified products. Among them, customers will find
the new generation Opel/Vauxhall Corsa EV. The zero-emission supermini will go on
sale in the first half of 2019 and promises to “make electro-mobility
affordable for many customers”, said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.
The Grandland X PHEV will launch in 2019 as well,
with e-AWD. The company’s flagship SUV will benefit from a total output of up
to 300 PS, which is identical to the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4
that was unveiled two months ago.
The French crossover combines a 1.6-liter petrol
engine with two electric motors and a 13.2 kWh battery. One of the motors is
attached to the rear wheels and drives them when necessary, or when the 4WD
mode is selected. The other is located on the front axle and is integrated with
the eight-speed auto gearbox. The 3008 GT Hybrid4 can travel for up to 50 km
(31 miles) on electric power alone.
The Mokka X is in for a significant makeover, too.
The second generation of the subcompact crossover will enter production in 2020
and, unlike the outgoing Mokka X, will benefit from a battery-electric version. The electrification plan approved
by PSA, Opel’s and Vauxhall’s parent company, will also include an electric
version of the Vivaro. The midsize van will become available with a
zero-emission powertrain in 2020.
Opel will blow 120 candles off
its birthday cake next year. Thus, they will celebrate the event by adding a
‘120 Years’ special edition to their model range, with design updates, new
features and more standard equipment “at especially attractive prices”.
