The Porsche Taycan is still roughly a year away from
reaching dealerships, yet, according to the German carmaker, it’s already
shaping up to be an exceptional success. Speaking with CNET during the
recent LA Auto Show, Porsche North America president and chief executive Klaus
Zellmer said that the company has been flooded with pre-orders for the
all-electric sedan.
While he didn’t give a number, he said that if all
the pre-orders turn into sales, the Taycan has already been sold out for the
first year. Porsche has previously said that it will look to build around 20,000
Taycans annually. While it remains to be seen if the pre-orders Zellmer was
referring to were strictly for vehicles in the U.S. or not, the automaker will
undoubtedly be encouraged by the demand for its first EV.
While the Taycan is pulling customers away from key
rivals, the company isn’t concerned about sales taking a hit because of the
Audi e-tron GT, an EV using the same underpinnings as the Taycan. According to
Zellmer, the two cars will drive very differently.
