Toyota has released an assortment of
TRD parts for the facelifted Prius. Currently on sale in Japan, the accessories
largely focus on exterior styling. The customers can buy an aggressive
front spoiler, extended side skirts and a modified rear bumper with a central
diffuser. Toyota also offers aerodynamic mirror caps, canards and black accents
for the front bumper.
Other styling
accessories include a roof-mounted diffuser, a dual exhaust system and a
TRD-branded rear bumper protector. Owners can also purchase door handle inserts
and an assortment of aluminum wheels in sizes ranging from 15- to 18-inches.
The aerodynamic
components are available individually and as part of a package. Customers can
also order the components painted from the factory at additional cost. Interior
changes are more modest as only three options are available. These include a
TRD-branded push-button ignition, a sunshade and a luggage box which costs
¥ 9,000 (US$ 81).
Performance
upgrades are also minor, but include motion control beams and a “member brace
set.” These components cost ¥ 80,000 (US$ 724) and ¥ 60,000 (US$ 543), respectively. While the parts are currently available for
purchase, Toyota will highlight them at the Tokyo Auto Salon by displaying a
Prius equipped with a number of the components.
Speaking of the
Prius, the 2019 model will be available with all-wheel drive in the United
States for the first time. Dubbed the Prius AWD-e, the hatchback features an
additional electric motor that powers the rear wheels at speeds up to 69 km/h.
