In addition to a 1.0-litre petrol engine, Maruti
Suzuki will offer the 2019 Wagon R with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, reports
Team-BHP. The upcoming model's exterior has already leaked ahead of its launch
on 23 January 2019.
Report says that Maruti Suzuki will offer the higher
capacity engine in a new top-of-the-line ZXi grade, along with an option for
AMT. The lower trim levels, which will reportedly comprise LXI and VXI grades,
will feature an updated version of the outgoing model's 1.0-litre petrol
engine. The outgoing model is available in three trim levels - LXI, VXI, and
VXI Plus, with the AMT option restricted to the latter two levels.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R features an entirely new
exterior that has a Kei car-inspired boxy appearance. It features curvier
headlamps, a shorter hood, larger greenhouse, black C-pillar , black C-pillar
motif and vertically stacked tail lights. While the interior is yet to be seen,
it should feature a more modern design while offering a tad more space. Maruti
Suzuki may offer the Smartplay touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto on the top-end grade.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will be underpinned by an
upgraded version of the current version’s platform. The 1.0-litre petrol engine
is likely to retain the bi-fuel (petrol+CNG) option. The 2019 Maruti Wagon R should be
significantly safer than the outgoing model. With more stringent safety norms
kicking in next year, safely expect all trims to feature ABS with driver-side airbag,
SBR, high-speed warning alert and reverse parking sensors. Additionally, the
top-end trim is likely to offer a reverse parking camera and a passenger-side
front airbag.
