The brand new third-generation Maruti Wagon R
appears to have reached a dealership, and the condition of the unit is a sign
that it is for the purpose of sales or service staff training. These spy shots
circulating on WhatsApp this morning expose the tall-boy' design detailing and
features.
The colour combo remains close to that of the
outgoing model. However, it looks like the lighter shade matched with black is
white instead of beige, with upgraded fabrics. Unlike in the outgoing model,
the instrument panel doesn’t house a tachometer or an integrated monochrome
display. In place comes a circular driver information display in a larger size
for easier reading.
As expected, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R features a
large central touchscreen infotainment system, as well as steering-mounted
Bluetooth and audio controls (unavailable in the current model). Another
appointment is the more premium steering wheel picked out from the parts bin of
the Maruti Ignis, sans the ‘Info’ button.
The touchscreen infotainment doesn’t
look like the familiar Smartplay unit. The centre console has a 'floating'
design integrating the gearshift lever to free up space on the floor. The
design of the central air vents looks sleeker, but overall the new Hyundai Santro
comes with the better cabin.
Maruti Suzuki will retail the 2019 Wagon R through
the Arena sales channel with four engine options: 1.0-litre petrol, 1.0-litre
petrol-LPG, 1.0-litre petrol-CNG and a 1.2-litre petrol for the first time.
Transmission choices will include 5-speed manual and 5-speed AGS automated
manual.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new Wagon R on the
23rd of this month. Expect prices to start between INR 4.25-4.50 lakh
(ex-showroom Delhi), and watch out for IAB's first drive report from the media
drive later this month.
