If you stop by Lexus’ stand at the 2019 Detroit Auto
Show, make sure to check out the limited production RC F Track Edition, a
lightweight track-focused version of the RC F, developed with input from the
automaker’s racing teams in IMSA and Super GT.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8,
putting down 479 PS and 536 Nm of torque, with the help of
an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s not often supercars get to use
naturally aspirated units nowadays.
The RC F Track Edition features Brembo carbon
ceramic brakes, a carbon fiber front splitter, roof, hood, bumper reinforcement
and rear seat partition, plus a fixed rear wing (instead of an active spoiler)
which adds 26.3 kg worth of downforce. Altogether, this car weighs 80 kg less than it would have without all the carbon fiber elements.
In a straight line, it can accelerate from zero to 96 km/h in 3.96 seconds with Launch Control engaged, although it’s the
increased cornering agility that should prove even more exciting.
As for styling, customers can order the car in one
of two exclusive colors – Ultra White and Nebula Gray, with a red leather
interior that boasts Alcantara seats and carbon fiber trim on the doors and
dashboard.
The 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition will go into
production in Q2 of this year, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
