What appears to be an entry-level spec all-new
Mercedes GLE Coupe was spotted recently undergoing winter testing while under
camouflage. This one doesn’t feature any AMG exterior
styling, and is equipped with a regular-looking set of five dual-spoke alloy
wheels. We can already tell that without AMG front and rear spoilers, the 2020
GLE Coupe appears a little less imposing, although we should reserve judgement
for when the wraps come off.
It’s been clear for years that Coupe-like four door
vehicles aren’t going anywhere. Their popularity has only gone up, as some
people seem to appreciate a stylish exterior at least as much as they do
overall practicality. If things were different, then there would be no need for
anybody to purchase a GLE Coupe over the regular GLE.
The 2020 GLE Coupe
is well on its way to being revealed to the public sometime this year, joining
the Audi Q8 in a soon to be completely revamped segment, along with BMW’s
upcoming third-generation X6. As for what it will actually look like, all signs
point to this being more than just a sloped roof version of the latest GLE. It
features a massive grille, large sweptback headlights, a more angular shoulder
line and a fastback-like rear end design.
Inside, expect to find the same steering wheel,
dashboard design and 12.3-inch displays as you would in the regular GLE, plus
the latter’s engine range, at least to some extent, based on market
availability. The GLE Coupe will also be available in 53 and 63/63 S form, with 435
PS for the former and some 571 PS / 612 PS for the
latter.
