The lightweight
construction and perfect weight distribution of the modern Alpine A110 to shine
in all reviews so far despite having less power than most of current hot
hatches. Nonetheless, that’s about to change, as a more agile variant of the
French sports car is said to be coming. DownShift reports that it will arrive
in October, with around 300 PS and 400 Nm of
torque.
Normally, we would
have taken this information with a pinch of salt. However, the latest Megane RS
Trophy has 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It uses
an improved version of the 1.8-liter four-banger that also powers the Alpine
A110, and is paired to either a six-speed manual or a double-clutch six-speed
auto.
With approximately
50 PS and 80 Nm of torque more than the current
A110, the rumored variant will probably sprint to 100 km/h in around 4
seconds. That some 0.5 seconds quicker than the standard A110, and roughly 1.2
seconds faster than the new Megane RS Trophy.
A cabriolet
derivative of the Alpine A110 has been the subject of several reports ever
since the coupe broke cover nearly two years ago. And it appears that it hasn’t
been nixed yet, so it might arrive in 2020 with the Porsche 718 Boxster in its
sight.
