Piaggio India recently showcased a wide range of new
motorcycles and scooters to its dealer partners during an annual conference in
Goa. Among the various unannounced models was the Aprilia STX 150, which was
one spied alongside the Aprilia SR Max 300 scooter and the China-spec Aprilia
GPR 150.
The Aprilia STX 150 is an entry-level naked commuter
bike from the Italian manufacturer. The motorcycle is on sale in Singapore and
New Zealand, and it was showcased at the conference to gauge dealer response.
Reports suggest that the STX 150 didn't garner enough interest from Piaggio
India's dealer-partners.
The Aprilia STX 150 is highly unlikely to be
launched in India as sources claim that if the motorcycle is introduced in the
country, it will dilute the Aprilia brand in India. That said, the design of
the STX 150 is quite sporty with sharp styling cues. The motorcycle features a
chiselled fuel tank with extended shrouds, a single-piece elongated seat and a
bikini fairing.
The Aprilia STX 150 features relaxed riding
ergonomics with a raised handlebar and centre-set footpegs. Suspension duties
are handled by twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the back and a conventional
telescopic unit at the front. Braking performance is aided by disc brakes at
both the ends with standard ABS. The STX 150 features an 18-litre fuel tank and
17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 90-section front and 110-section rear
tubeless tyres.
Powering the Aprilia STX 110 is a 149 cc
single-cylinder, SOHC, 2-valve, air-cooled motor that is mated to a five-speed
gearbox. The motorcycle uses a 22 mm Euro 3 compliant Keihin carburettor that
offers higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
