UK-based Niels van Roij design studio is working on
a Ferrari Breadvan Hommage that’s being created for an enthusiast of the
original long-roof version of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. The design studio has released
the first sketches of the one-off creation, which is going to be based on a
Ferrari 550 Maranello. The process will include a full re-body of the V12
supercar, with the studio noting that only the windscreen will remain the same.
The new bodywork will be made out of aluminum,
evoking clearly the styling of the original Breadvan race cars, including the
shape of the curvy rear quarter panels and that of the almost vertical rear
end. The styling of the one-off Breadvan hasn’t been finalised yet as the
studio is toying with different ideas and solutions, including an all-glass
rear hatch as well as different bonnets and headlights.
Niels van Roij chose the 550 Maranello as the base
of its creation as it has the same chassis configuration with the original,
meaning a V12 up front with a manual transmission. The 550 was also the first
Ferrari with a front mounted engine since the 365 GTB/4 Daytona.
The design studio has already begun the process of
stripping the donor car from its original bodywork, leaving just the tubular
space frame and the V12 powertrain untouched. Niels van Roij Design will report
