The facelifted L550 Land Rover Discovery Sport has been photographed doing its
rounds again. First unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Discovery Sport
is now four years old, and this prototype appears to wear some rather extensive
changes to its exterior.
Still, much remains concealed on this development
vehicle on this latest sighting, though we can see that the headlamps will be
among the changes to come on the updated model; these here are comprised of
dual elements in each cluster. Inside, the revised Discovery Sport can be
expected to comprise traits of the second-generation Evoque cabin, with a new
touchscreen infotainment display in the middle.
The facelifted Discovery Sport will be the next
model to use the group’s Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA), which is a
heavily revised version of the current platform. This also underpins the latest
Evoque, and will allow for hybrid powertrains. A plug-in hybrid version of the
Evoque on this platform is expected before 2020, and its 1.5 litre three-pot
mill with lithium-ion battery pack and 48-volt electrical system should be ripe
for the updated Discovery Sport as well.
In terms of powertrain, the Discovery Sport has adopted
the Ingenium family of engines in 2016, and this is expected to be carried over
into the update. Petrols and diesels should feature here as well, and as it is
a Land Rover product, the latest in off-road capabilities is a given. This will
go on sale in this form until 2024 when it goes to the Modular Longitudinal
Architecture (MLA) platform for rear- and all-wheel-drive layouts.
