Tata Motors has
made ABS with EBD and CSC standard in the Tiago entry-level hatchback. The same
safety upgrade is expected in the Tata Tigor soon.
In February 2017,
the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) had notified that ABS will
become mandatory in passenger car (M1) and minivan (M2) vehicles from 1 April
2018 (new models)/1 April 2019 (existing models). Tata Motors is acting on the
mandate early on. The Tata Tiago is available in XE, XM, XT/XTA, XZ/XZA and XZ+
grades. Previously, only the XZ/XZA and XZ+ grades included ABS with EBD and
CSC.
In the Tata Motors
line-up, the Tiago, Nexon, Hexa and Harrier are the models featuring ABS as
standard now. ABS is still not included as standard in the Tigor, Bolt, Zest
and Safari Storme. In the Sumo Gold and GenX Nano, ABS is unavailable. In July
2018, reports said that the company has limited the production of the GenX Nano
to order-only basis. It will likely officially discontinue this model by April
2019.
From 1 July 2019,
all M1 category vehicles will have to feature reverse parking sensors, speed
alert system, driver and co-driver SBR, manual override for central locking
system and driver airbag also as standard.
