The 2019 Yamaha FZ-S FI V3.0 ABS made its debut in
India on 21 January, at INR 97,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). It reveals all the design
elements that include an updated headlight setup, chrome bezel for the
air-scoops on the fuel tank, the new instrument console and many others.
The FZ-S FI V3.0 ABS brings new styling and updated
features that give the motorcycle a mid-life upgrade. However, it still isn’t
BS-VI ready, and that should happen early next year. Currently, complying with
the upcoming safety norms was the target and Yamaha achieved that with the
launch of the ABS model.
Styling cues include a new LED headlight that gives
the fascia an FZ25 inspired look. The cockpit benefits from a digital LCD
instrument cluster that too is inspired by its quarter-litre sibling. The
redesigned fuel tank with extended shrouds adds more muscle to the package
while an engine belly cover, which is limited to FZ-S and not available on the
FZ, gives the motorcycle a sportier look. At the rear is a new single-piece
aluminium grab handle that replaces the split style unit on its predecessor.
The revised saddle trades the split seat setup for a single-piece unit.
The Yamaha FZ-S can be purchased in three colour
options - Matte Black, Dark Matte Blue and Grey & Cyan Blue. Engine specifications are identical on both
variants. A 149cc, SOHC fuel-injected, 2-valve, single-cylinder Blue Core motor
continues to propels the FZ-S and FZ. The engine delivers a decent 13.2 PS of
maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm and comes
mated to a five-speed transmission.
