Lexus says the bold RC F Track Edition will be built
for more than a single year and, more importantly, that the nameplate could be
used by other models. The 2020 RC F Track Edition was recently unveiled at the Detroit Auto
Show, but few details about its production run were given. Speaking with Motor1
at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Lexus vice president for product planning and
strategy Cooper Ericksen provided us with more details about the future of the
driver-focused variant of the coupe.
The Track Edition stands out thanks to Brembo carbon
ceramic brakes, a carbon front splitter, roof, hood, bumper, and rear seat
partition. These components save 80 kg over the standard RC F and
allow for a 0-96 km/h)run in just 3.96 seconds.
Ericksen suggested that the Track
Edition won’t be a shortlived model, adding that Lexus engineers are already
discussing how the vehicle can evolve over the coming years. It’s even possible
that the Japanese luxury brand will use the nameplate for other models in its
range as well, with the most likely candidates being a hardcore GS F variant or
a new version of the upcoming Lexus LC F.
