Toyota will use the Osaka Auto Messe to introduce the new GR
Supra Performance Line concept from TRD. Set to debut on February 9th at
9:30 am local time, the GR Supra Performance Line concept promises to be a
high-performance model that takes inspiration from previous Supra racing cars.
The company is keeping details under wraps, but noted the original Supra was
“born in order to win” and eventually retreated from the “front line of the
fight.” The company goes on to say it’s time for a comeback.
That isn’t much to go on, but TRD released a teaser
video which features the Supra 3000 GT as well as a number of Supra race cars
that competed in the Japan GT Championship (JGTC). The automaker also released
a sketch of the concept and it suggests the model will have a massive rear wing
and a ventilated hood that draws inspiration from the Supra 3000 GT.
Toyota is keeping details under wraps, but the
concept could preview an assortment of TRD components for the road-going model.
There’s no word on specifics as of yet, but TRD offers an assortment of
components for the Toyota 86. Key exterior highlights include an aggressive
front spoiler, aerodynamic side skirts, and a new diffuser. Owners can also
purchase a sports exhaust system, a rear spoiler and an assortment of fins.
On the performance front, 86 customers can buy a
strut tower brace, beefier brakes and lightweight aluminum wheels. TRD also
offers a draw stiffener, a limited slip differential and a handful of
suspension packages with new springs and shocks. It wouldn’t be surprising if the
accessories for the Supra follow in the footsteps of those offered on the 86,
but we should find out more next week.
