Short of an M5 or
an M5 Competition, the M550i xDrive is the quickest BMW 5-Series version you
can buy today, thanks to its 4.4-liter twin turbocharger V8 engine.
It pushes down 462
PS and 650 Nm of torque to all four wheels, and can
accelerate BMW’s saloon to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds flat. This means
it’s actually quicker than the old M5, and just 0.6 seconds slower than the
latest M5.
If you
want your M550i to stand out from other 5-Series, you can always ring a
well-known tuner. Someone like AC Schnitzer, for instance, who offers a body
kit with extra carbon fiber parts which give the car a more aggressive look.
Mods include a
custom front spoiler with carbon fiber inserts, a carbon fiber ‘Racing’ rear
wing, side skirts and new wheels, while the interior remains a little more
conservative, with a classy combination of brown leather and white contrast
stitching, plus wood inserts on the dashboard, center console and door panels.
