BMW’s M family is about to become bigger, with the
addition of the X3 M and X4 M. Teased on the brand’s social media pages, BMW
says both models are ‘coming soon’, which points to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show,
early next month.
The Bavarians shared a video of the two being driven
fast on tarmac and gravel. The vinyl wraps are still on, but we already saw the
X3 M’s exterior last month, courtesy of the iDrive infotainment system, which
revealed the more aggressive overall styling.
The X3 M and X4 M will share the same engine, with
sources pointing to a new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six, rated at over
450 PS. The lump will work together with an eight-speed
automatic gearbox and an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system that’s said to
be similar to the one found in the M5.
No performance numbers have been released yet, but
both will be quicker than the M40i models, which sprint to 100 km/h in
just under 5 seconds. That said, expect a time of 4 seconds or less. In
comparison, Mercedes‘ AMG GLCs have an official 0-100 km/h time of
3.8 seconds for the range-topping ‘S’ variants, which use a 4.0-liter
twin-turbo V8 with 510 PS.
