We may already have all the information concerning
the upcoming 911 Speedster, but we’ve just received a new batch of spy shots,
showing a prototype being driven around with the top down. This is the swan song of the
Porsche 991.2, set to be produced in 1,948 examples, all of which are
reportedly already sold. Featuring a two-seat configuration, the limited-run
911 Speedster is based on the chassis of the GT3 and uses a modified body based
on that of the Carrera 4 Cabriolet.
The highlight of the new 911 Speedster is the characteristic double-bubble cover behind the seats made out of
carbon fiber. The final production examples are also expected to feature a set
of retro-inspired ‘Talbot’ door mirrors, 21-inch alloy wheels and a lightweight
Tonneau cover fitted by Tennax buttons.
Power will be provided by the GT3’s naturally
aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, producing over 500 hp and revving up to 9,000rpm
while purists will be happy to know that a six-speed manual transmission will
be the only transmission available.
The new 911 Speedster will also be Porsche’s first
model to be offered with a range of Heritage Design packages, enabling
customers to pick their favorite livery instead of a simple paint job. This should be one of the last
times we see a prototype, as production of the Porsche 911 Speedster was
supposed to start in early 2019, but the latest reports talk about deliveries
starting this summer.
