The T32 Nissan X-Trail facelift range has finally
made its public appearance here ahead of the launch next month, with all four
variants being displayed at the Nissan showroom in Glenmarie.
Order books are already open. There are four variants of the new X-Trail to be
had, starting from the petrol-only X-Trail 2.0L 2WD (RM 139,900), X-Trail 2.0L
2WD Mid (RM 149,900), X-Trail 2.5L 4WD (RM 159,900), as well as the new
range-topping X-Trail 2.0L Hybrid (RM 169,900).
Now, as facelifts go, the updated X-Trail brings
quite a number of changes to the table, starting with the redesigned LED
headlights (2.0L 2WD gets halogen reflectors), new front bumper with
rectangular fog lamps, bolder V-Motion grille, 17-inch alloys, shark fin
antenna and smoked LED combination tail lamps. The top three models also get
motion-sensing powered tailgate.
Entry-level 2.0L models are powered by the MR20DD
2.0 litre four-cylinder engine, offering 144 PS at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm at
4,400 rpm, whereas the second rung model gets a QR25DE 2.5 litre engine making
171 PS at 6,000 rpm and 233 Nm at 4,000 rpm. All models get the same Xtronic
CVT from before. Meanwhile, the X-Trail Hybrid shares the same 2.0 litre petrol
engine, but it’s been optimised for the hybrid system. Changes include a
low-friction oil seal and removal of auxiliary belt. An electric motor helps
provide an additional 41 PS and 160 Nm.
The hybrid engine is also paired with a CVT, but it
gets Nissan’s Intelligent Dual Clutch Control – a one-motor, two-clutch
parallel hybrid system. The “dual clutch” here refers to the clutch between the
engine and the electric motor, and the clutch between the electric motor and
the Xtronic CVT. Coasting is possible at speeds below 120 km/h – this decouples
the CVT from the engine.
Safety has also been updated, with the top three
models getting six airbags as standard, while the base variant gets four. Also
included is Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility driver assist systems, comprising
features like Forward Collision Warning, AEB, Lane Departure Warning, and more.
Move up to the 2.0L Mid and it gets Lane Departure
Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Motion Activated Power Tailgate, and Rear Cross
Traffic Alert. Only the 2.5L 4WD and 2.0L Hybrid get Intelligent Cruise
Control, High Beam Assist and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with
Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (AEB).
Airbag count is up from the current two – top three
models get six airbags as standard, but the cheapest 2.0L 2WD only gets four.
Other safety features include Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold function,
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), ABS with EBD,
Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist (HSA), and two Isofix child seat anchors with top
tether.
