We have only recently begun seeing prototypes of
Audi‘s updated RS4 Avant, which is set to receive a proper mid-cycle makeover,
just like the rest of the Audi A4 range. But what’s it going to look like
when the camouflage finally comes down? Thanks to Kolesa and designer Nikita
Chuiko, we have what seems to be a pretty accurate answer to that question.
On the outside, the entire family of A4 will get
modifications to the rear end, with the rowdy estate to feature a set of new
LED taillights, similar to those found on the latest Audi A6 Avant. The front
meanwhile will come with new headlights, a fresh bumper and a new
three-dimensional grille, like the one on the Q8 crossover.
The overall aesthetic of the RS4 isn’t going to
change much, if at all. Even with camouflage on, the prototype spotted by our
spy photographers doesn’t look any more imposing than the model it’s set to
replace, either towards the end of the year or in early 2020. Still, the new headlights and
more menacing grille give it a fresh new vibe, while the taillights should help
it stand out more, especially from a distance – thanks to the differentiated
graphics.
As for performance, if Audi will keep the 2.9-liter
twin turbocharged V6 engine’s power and peak torque output as is, that means
that the 2020 RS4 Avant will put down the same 450 PS and 600 Nm as its predecessor. In a straight line, this engine helps the German
sports executive family wagon reach 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds,
before maxing out at 280 km/h.
