The current Opel Insignia is by no means outdated,
but that hasn’t stopped the automaker from working on a facelifted variant.
Spied here for the first time since last year, the new Insignia won’t be
drastically different from the outgoing model, though it will benefit from a
few refreshments.
The 2020 Insignia pictured
has thick black camouflage across its entire front fascia, blocking out any
view of the front grille or re-shaped air intakes. At least we can see the
overall shape of the headlights that now sport a sharper design.
The prototype in question features no camouflage or
body cladding down the sides but does have some black taping at the rear,
specifically around the taillights. We’re big fans of the taillights of the
current Insignia and while it’s difficult to know what alterations have been
made for the facelifted model, they do look largely the same.
It’s unclear why the car manufacturer is refreshing the
vehicle so soon after its launch; one possibility is that Opel new owner, the
PSA Group, fast-tracked the model’s development cycle. PSA may also introduce some of its own engines to
the Insignia range when the new car launches – however, there’s no solid info
on that. Like the current model, the 2020 Opel Insignia will be available both
as a sedan and a Sports Tourer (estate).
