The latest
Chevrolet Equinox premiered less than two-and-a-half years ago and General
Motors has already started development of the facelifted model. The new Chevrolet Equinox
will benefit from a series of upgrades over the outgoing model.
While the updated
Chevrolet Equinox prototype in question is bathed in camouflage, it is obvious
that some major alterations have been made to the vehicle’s front fascia. For
example, the new Equinox will receive headlights inspired by those of the
Chevrolet Blazer, meaning a combination of thin horizontal lights with larger
primary light units lower down on the front bumper.
In order to
implement this new lighting design, Chevrolet has reportedly created a new
grille for the Equinox. Other styling revisions are found across the vehicle’s
exterior, including the rear fascia which now incorporates revised redesigned
tailpipes and inevitably, a modified bumper and taillight design.
Some apparently
claim that the new Equinox could be sold in performance-oriented SS guise but
it remains unclear if that will indeed be the case. If an SS variant does reach
the production line, it will most likely feature a series of aggressive styling
tweaks including a set of larger wheels and tires. Changes could also be made
to the vehicle’s engine, suspension, and braking systems to give it an edge
over lesser models.
We know that the new 2020 Chevrolet Equinox will continue to be
underpinned by GM’s Delta platform. The current model is offered with a 170 hp
1.5-liter petrol engine while the range-topping petrol unit pumps out 252 hp
from its 2.0-liter. A 1.6-liter diesel four-cylinder is also on offer with 136
hp. It remains unconfirmed if these engines will be retained for the current
model but some alterations are to be expected.
The new Equinox
will likely premiere towards the end of this year or in early 2020.
