We haven’t heard
much from Fisker lately, but the company has released the first teaser image of
its entry-level electric vehicle. While the image isn’t very revealing, Henrik
Fisker said the model will cost around US$ 40,000. That would make the vehicle
more expensive than the entry-level Tesla Model 3, but about the same price as
the mid-range Model 3 which starts at US$ 40,000 and has a range of 425
km.
Little is known
about the vehicle at this point, but Fisker did confirm “some” technical
specifications will be released on March 18th. The executive also spoke to
Edison last month and revealed the model is slated to be launched in 2021. It
will apparently use a lithium-ion battery pack and have a “very different”
design. If everything goes according to plan, Fisker intends to produce around
250,000 vehicles annually by 2025.
While a lot of
questions remain, it’s clear the vehicle will be less ambitious than the
EMotion. That particular model has all-wheel drive, an estimated top speed of 259 km/h and a range of 644 km. The EMotion also comes
equipped with five LiDAR sensors which support the vehicle’s semi-autonomous
driving system.
Inside, the EMotion
has premium leather upholstery, four electronically adjustable seats and an
optional rear seat entertainment system with a 27-inch display. Other
highlights include a digital instrument, a free-standing infotainment system
and a central curved control screen.
While the
entry-level model will apparently be launched with a lithium-ion battery pack,
Fisker has been working on solid-state batteries for quite awhile. The company
has previously said they could be ready for automotive applications after 2020
and they will have “three-dimensional electrodes with 2.5 times the energy
density of lithium-ion batteries.” Fisker has said this will enable future
electric vehicles to travel more than 805 km)on a single charge and
have recharging times as low as one minute.
