Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has announced that it
will bring select 2019 Chevrolet Camaro models to Australia and New Zealand,
including the potent Camaro ZL1. HSV will be the first company to re-engineer the latest Camaro models
with full volume compliance in Australia and New Zealand and convert the
vehicles from left- to right-hand drive.
At the top of the range is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro
ZL1. Initially, HSV will convert ZL1s equipped with the 10-speed automatic
transmission in Victoria from April. Conversions of the 6-speed manual variant
will then kick-off in May.
Camaro ZL1s heading Down Under are virtually
identical to those sold in the United States, albeit for having the steering
wheel on the other side. Consequently, power comes from a 6.2-liter LT4
supercharged V8, which for the Australian and New Zealand markets will deliver
643 hp and 860 Nm of torque.
Those who opt for the six-speed manual will receive
an Active Rev Matching feature as well as hill-hold and launch control
functionalities. The 10-speed automatic includes launch control, line-lock and
lift-foot gear hold.
Local buyers will be pleased to know that all ZL1s
come complete with the Magnetic Ride Control suspension which can change
damping in just 10-15 milliseconds depending on road conditions. The car also
comes equipped with an electronically-control limited slip differential, huge
Brembo brakes, and a bi-mode exhaust offering Sport and Track driving modes.
Aussies and Kiwis looking for something more
accessible can opt for the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS. This model is powered by a
naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8 delivering 454 hp and an impressive 617 Nm of torque. Like the ZL1, the 2SS is available with both a six-speed
manual and a 10-speed automatic.
