The
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S is hands down one of the coolest, and fastest, four-door
cars money can buy. That doesn’t mean it can’t be improved, though, and that’s
exactly what German tuning firm Performmaster is trying to achieve with its GT
63 S “1of31” limited edition project based on AMG’s finest four-door car.
The name says it
all, really: only 31 of these souped-up AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupes will be made
as a celebration of the aftermarket company’s 31st anniversary. Each receives
identical styling and performance tweaks. Yes, the folks from Performmaster wanted
to improve on the standard AMG GT 63 S 4 Door Coupe’s 639 PS and 900
Nm of torque produced by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
So they pushed it
to 740 PS and 1,030 Nm courtesy of the PEC Tuning Module
that connects directly to the AMG engine control unit. Mated to the same
nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic+ AWD system, the tuned engine
allows the sleek four-door coupe to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds,
making it 0.3 seconds quicker than the stock car. The top speed remains
unchanged at 315 km/h.
The phenomenal
performance is accompanied by a custom aerodynamic package consisting of
handcrafted carbon fiber parts including a front splitter, rear wing and
diffuser painted either in body color or in high gloss black. Mounted on the
original attachment points, the wing is said to improve stability and handling
at high speeds on straights and in corners, while Performmaster also offers a
lowered adjustable suspension that’s supposed to “noticeably” improve handling
and driving dynamics.
Finally, the
interior gets only subtle “1of31” applications to remind passengers they’re not
just in any GT 63 S, but in a limited edition.
