If you’re among those who think that the Perodua
Aruz is too big or long to drive comfortably on the daily, well, maybe a
smaller five-seater version could tickle your fancy. Hard to imagine a smaller
Aruz, right? Not quite thanks to this set of
renderings by Theophilus Chin. Essentially, the bright yellow Aruz gets a
significantly shorter rear overhang, harking back to the good old days of the
Kembara, minus the iconic tailgate-mounted spare tyre of course.
The shorter proportions look surprisingly decent as
well, and this version of the Aruz wears a revised front bumper with larger fog
lamps housing that’s complemented by a slimmer radiator grille. At the back,
the blacked out tailgate garnish is replaced with a body-coloured finish,
rounder tail lights and a new bumper with integrated reflectors and grey
diffuser.
The body-on-frame SUV would weigh
less, which translates to a better power-to-weight ratio. Currently, the Aruz
is powered by the 2NR-VE 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol
unit that develops 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm.
Now, why would anyone want a shorter Aruz? Well,
some people may be put off by its sheer length, so a shorter model could make
sense, especially for those who want SUV looks and practicality.
