If you’re interested in placing an order for the
Tesla Model Y and are willing to wait until at least late 2020 for one, you can
do so by visiting the automaker’s online configurator and proceed to build your
ideal all-electric crossover.
The cheapest version you can order right now is the
Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive spec, with the standard solid black paint, 18-inch
Aero wheels, all-black interior and a five seat configuration. Its purchase price is US$ 47,000
(US$ 42,700 after est. savings) and you still end up with a range of 482 km and a 5.5-second 0-96 km/h sprint time.
Customers willing to hold out until the Spring of
2021 can get the Standard Range Model Y, which will cost upwards of US$ 39,000
according to Tesla. Currently, you can also opt for the Long Range Dual Motor
AWD spec, as well as the Performance version, the former kicking things off at US$ 51,000 (US$ 46,700 with est. savings), while the latter is priced from US$ 60,000
(US$ 55,700 with est. savings).
If you’re only interested in ultimate Model Y
experience, then you need to get the Dual Motor Performance version and add the
following features: Red Multi-Coat paint (US$ 2,500), Black and White interior
(US$ 1,000), Seven-Seat layout (US$ 3,000 – and available in 2021), Autopilot
(US$ 3,000) and Full Self-Driving Capability (US$ 5,000). That brings the grand total
to US$ 74,500, or US$ 70,200 after estimated savings.
With Full Self-Driving Capability, your Model Y will
be able to do the following things:
- Navigate on Autopilot: automatic driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp including interchanges and overtaking slower cars.
- Autopark: both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
- Summon: your parked car will come find you anywhere in a parking lot. Really.
- Recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop signs.
- Automatic driving on city streets.
In terms of performance, the flagship Model Y boasts
a range of 450 km, a top speed of 241 km/h and a 0-60 mph
time of 3.5 seconds.
