Mercedes has opened the order books for the updated
2019 GLC and GLC Coupe in Europe, which are expected to reach at dealerships
this July. The mid-life update of the German SUV models includes the adoption of
the new powertrains and tech, as well as subtle design changes inside and
outside to keep them fresh and competitive in their segment.
The exterior updates are limited to a new, but
similar, front grille, redesigned LED headlights and taillights, new bumpers
and new wheel options. The cabin however was injected with Daimler’s latest tech; gone is
the previous-gen infotainment system and in goes the standard-fit MBUX one that
supports gesture control and an advanced voice control system, operating
through a 10.25-inch display. Mercedes also offers a 12.3-inch digital
instrument cluster as an option.
Other changes include the brand’s latest
multifunction steering wheel, the option for an adaptive suspension for the
first time and a wide range of driver assistance systems. Customers ready to place an order
for the new 2019 GLC and GLC Coupe are offered the choice between the GLC 200 d
and GLC 220 d initially, with the rest of the range soon to become available.
The new four-cylinder diesel OM 654 units replace the previous OM 651 and are
offered in 160 hp and in 191 hp versions in the 200 d and 220 d
models respectively, both of then paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission
and all-wheel drive.
The petrol-powered GLC 200 and GLC 300 will combine
a new engine with a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator, making them
mild-hybrids. Power output is set at 195 hp for the 200 and at 254 hp for the 300 model.
Prices kick off at 47,724 euros (US$ 53,710) for the 2019 Mercedes GLC 200 d in Germany.
