The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster has just been introduced at the ongoing New York Auto Show after the vehicle was shown off in concept guise late last year. Sitting at the heart of the new Porsche 911 Speedster is a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine which delivers 502 hp and 469 Nm of torque while revving to an extraordinary 9000 rpm. This engine is the same basic unit fitted in both the current 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS and incorporates individual throttle bodies just like the 911 GT3 R race car.

The 911 Speedster will be sold exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission which sends power through the rear wheels. The sprint from 0-96 km/h will be dealt with in just 3.8 seconds and the German sports car can power through to a 309 km/h top speed.

Porsche focused extensively on ensuring the 911 Speedster is as light as possible throughout its development. Consequently, the front luggage compartment lid, front fenders, and rear decklid are all made from carbon fiber. The car also comes equipped with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes as standard and no air conditioning is featured. However, customers can select air conditioning as a no-cost option. All up, the new Speedster tips the scales at 1465 kg.

While the car does feature the same chassis as the 911 GT3 models, it does include specifically-calibrated rear axle steering and new dynamic engine mounts. A set of Satin Black 20-inch center lock wheels are also standard.

Order books for the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster will open on May 7, 2019 and the car is expected to land in U.S. dealerships in late 2019. Alongside announcing the car itself, Porsche Design has unveiled a special timepiece exclusive to Speedster owners.
