BMW introduced the redesigned X5 last summer and now
the company is putting the finishing touches on the new X5 M. Recently caught undergoing
testing on the Nürburgring, this X5 M has shed its heavy camouflage and this
gives us a better look at the model’s aggressive front fascia. As you can see,
the crossover retains its massive grille but adopts a sportier front bumper
with five different air intakes.
More changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the X5 M
has aerodynamic mirror caps and lightweight alloy wheels that are backed up by
a high-performance braking system with blue calipers. The model also sports a
unique spoiler and a modified rear bumper which makes room for a four-tailpipe
sports exhaust system.
The sporty styling will continue in the cabin as
previous leaked photos have shown the model will have a leather-wrapped BMW M
steering wheel and carbon fiber trim. Buyers will also find a digital
instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system and stylish metal accents. BMW has been tight-lipped about
performance specifications, but the standard X5 M is expected use a 4.4-liter
TwinPower Turbo V8 that produces 592 hp and 750
Nm of torque. We can also expect an X5 M Competition with 617 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
Given the outgoing X5 M produced 567 hp and 750 Nm of torque, we can expect the redesigned to model
to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in less than four seconds. This should
be made possible by a combination of weight savings and added horsepower. The 2020 BMW X5 M is expected to
be unveiled later this year, but it’s not entirely clear when.
