Dodge quietly
unveiled the Charger Widebody concept at Spring Fest 14 and now the production
model has been spied during a commercial shoot. Recorded by an Instagram user,
the short clip shows the upcoming sedan will feature a widebody kit that
includes extended wheel arches and lightly modified bumpers. We can also see a
trunk-mounted spoiler, a dual exhaust system and a ventilated rear fascia.
Dodge has been
surprisingly coy about the concept, but the model follows in the footsteps of
the widebody Challenger which is 89 mm wider than the standard
model. The coupe also comes equipped with a competition suspension and 20-inch
wheels wrapped in 305/35ZR20 tires.
Previous reports
have suggested the widebody option will be available on Charger Scat Pack and
SRT Hellcat models. If the report pans out, the entry-level Charger Widebody
will have a 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 485 hp and 643 Nm of torque. The Hellcat, on the other hand, would have a
supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with at least 707 hp and 881 Nm of torque.
Pricing remains
unconfirmed, but the widebody package is US$ 6,000 option on the Challenger R/T
Scat Pack and Hellcat. As a result, the Charger Scat Pack Widebody could cost
around US$ 46,000 while the Hellcat Widebody could retail for a little under US$ 75,000.
While Dodge appears
to be creating promotional material for the car, it could be several more
months until it is unveiled. Previous reports have suggested the Charger
Widebody will debut at the Woodward Dream Cruise and that doesn’t officially
kick off until August 17th.
