Mercedes-AMG is putting the finishing touches on the
CLA 35 Shooting Brake shortly after unveiling the car in sports sedan guise. The following Mercedes-AMG CLA 35
Shooting Brake prototype was filmed testing at the Nurburgring. This is no
track car but testing the vehicle at the infamous racetrack will allow AMG
engineers to dial-in the vehicle’s driving dynamics and allow it to iron-out
any issues.
Much like the CLA 35 sedan, as well as the A 35
Hatchback and A35 Sedan, the CLA 35 Shooting Brake will be powered by a
2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 302 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
Power from this engine will be transmitted to all
four wheels through an AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and a
seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The CLA 35 sedan hits 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and runs through to a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Largely identical figures are expected for the Shooting Brake.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the standard CLA Shooting
Brake at March’s 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Compared to its predecessor, the new
car is 48 mm longer, 53 mm wider, and sits 2 mm lower. The wheelbase has grown by 30 mm. In layman’s
terms, this means interior space will be improved over the previous-generation
model, allowing occupants to enjoy the vehicle’s performance in greater
comfort.
Distinguishing the CLA 35 Shooting Brake from other
models will be some subtle exterior modifications, including new wheels,
bespoke tailpipes, and revised front and rear bumpers.
