Chevrolet has released further details about the
all-new Onix compact sedan following its world debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. Chinese customers can already
order the Chevy Onix Redline, which is available in two versions priced from
RMB 96,900 (US$ 14,500) and RMB 99,900 (US$ 14,900). Following the
introduction of the Redline, additional variants will be added in the coming
months.
Built by the SAIC-GM joint venture, the all-new Onix
launches in sporty Redline trim that brings red and black design cues such as
the black bow tie emblems and dual-grille design, as well as horizontal red
accents on the grille and mirror caps and black 16-inch alloys.
Inside, Chevrolet claims its sedan offers
segment-leading space for rear passengers, 22 storage locations throughout the
cabin, and a cargo volume of 469 liters.
The new Onix is the first of many new Chevrolet and
Buick B- and C-segment vehicles to use the GEM (Global Emerging Markets)
platform. Power comes from a 1.0-liter Ecotec 325T turbocharged three-cylinder
gasoline engine rated at 123 hp and 180 Nm of torque.
Mated to a six-speed Dynamic Start/Stop Shift (DSS) automatic transmission, it
offers a claimed average fuel consumption of 4.9 liters/100 km (48 mpg US) and
meets the China 6 emission standard.
When it comes to standard features, the highlight is
the MyLink infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife,
OnStar Intelligent Link and the Xiao O intelligent driving assistant. Also
included in the base price are a 3.5-inch driver information display,
leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, sports seats, and an air
purification system.
The list of standard safety systems features ESC,
ABS, EBD, TCS, and Hill Start Assist, while options include a backup camera,
reverse radar, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and ISOFIX locks for
child safety seats.
