Chinese start-up Gyon teased us with a
high-performance luxury car just ahead of the 2018 LA Auto Show last year, and
now we can finally feast our eyes on what has been dubbed the ‘Matchless’, unveiled in Shanghai.
If you’re wondering if Gyon actually stands for
something, it turns out that it does: Grow Your Own Niche. According to the
company, the most important word there is ‘niche’, which they define as unique
and futuristic, something the Matchless concept aspires to be.
While we can’t speak on how good the
Matchless looks, its sheer size does help it appear imposing, which is
sometimes enough for a luxury product. In terms of styling, its most defining
traits include the C-shaped light graphics front and rear, the LED screen
grille which can display various information, and the wavy shoulder line, which
is said to reflect a strong sense of power.
The overall design was said to be inspired by the
hourglass, which is evident from the profile of the vehicle. The interior is very futuristic, with no physical buttons to speak of,
multiple displays and an innovative steering wheel design with a break in the
sides.
The cabin also seems to feature premium materials
and loads of contrast stitching on the seats, upper dash, lower dash, center
console and door panels.
During last year’s LA Auto Show, Gyon stated that
its first production model will be a compact or medium-sized car with some
580-600 km of EV range. It’s safe to say that won’t be the
Matchless though, which has now been described as the brand’s “first flagship
model”.
