PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia (HMI) finally officially launched Kona at the 2019 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). The South Korean sport utility vehicle (SUV) was priced at IDR 363.9 million. HMI only offers one choice of Kona for the Indonesian domestic market, armed with the latest NU 2,000 cc Atkinson MPI engine. This engine is capable of issuing 149 PS power and 18.3 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm which is transferred through an automatic six-speed transmission.

President Director of PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia (HMI) Mukiat Sutikno, said, Kona was designed as a compact SUV with a unique appearance and full of confidence. "Through Kona we offer a compact SUV that is suitable for young users who are active and like challenges. Kona complements the line-up of Hyundai SUVs in Indonesia, and with all the advantages we have, Kona is priced at IDR 363.9 million," Mukiat said.


Mukiat continued, Kona's presence in the Indonesian market will compete with two Japanese SUVs that play in premium compact segments, namely the Mazda CX-3 and Toyota CH-R. While in terms of features and others, it is claimed there is no trimming, everything is intact (CBU) imported from South Korea.

While when asked about the sales target during the 2019 IIMS, Mukiat said Hyundai did not have a specific target because it was still focused on introducing Kona. But in terms of the character of consumers, Kona is claimed to be targeting millennials between the ages of 25 and 35 years.
