Infiniti has released the first teaser image of
their new Qs Inspiration concept. Designed to preview an upcoming
production model, the Qs Inspiration is a sports sedan which features a new
design language that Infiniti will apply to future electrified vehicles. The
company didn’t go into specifics, but said the design will be inspired by the
“art and modern architecture of Japan.”
That’s pretty vague, but the teaser image shows the
concept will have rounded bodywork which is interrupted by angular surfaces on
the rear bumper. We can also see slender taillights and a distinctive
half-glass roof. Other highlights appear to include video camera side mirrors
and a unique trim element which is integrated into the rear pillar.
Infiniti didn’t release interior pictures, but the
company said drivers will find a minimalist cabin with two distinct zones.
These include a “clutter-free cockpit” and a “relaxed passenger zone” with
generous interior space. Regardless of where people sit, Infiniti said they
will find “striking artistry and craftsmanship.”
Little else is known about the concept, but Infiniti
confirmed the car will have an electrified powertrain. The model will also ride
on an all-new flexible architecture which has been specifically designed to
accommodate eco-friendly powertrains. The automaker didn’t say much
else about the concept, but they might have hinted it will be a flagship sedan.
As they noted, the Q45 debuted in 1989 with a groundbreaking design and now,
thirty years later, the company is “delivering another groundbreaking sedan.”
The Q45 was dropped over a decade ago and it has
been effectively replaced by the Q70 / Q70L. The Q70 is getting long-in-tooth
at this point, so it’s not entirely clear if the upcoming production model will
replace it or become a true flagship sedan like the Q45. We’ll have to wait and see what
happens, but we should learn more at the Shanghai Auto Show.
