Lexus has released
a teaser image of a new vehicle it will premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show
later this month. Looking at the teaser, it is obvious that the Lexus model in
question will bear more than a passing resemblance to the RX crossover, at
least from the front. However, the vehicle’s headlights are slightly different
and the design of the front grille is a little more complex.
Accompanying the
teaser published by the Lexus Taiwan page on Facebook is a description that
reads “The Luxury of Space” – and if Google translate is correct, asks “How
does Lexus jump off the limits of transportation?” The answer? “When the
vehicle is upgraded to an exclusive private space.”
According to Lexus
Enthusiast, this could mean that the Lexus teased here is an all-new minivan.
We’ve asked Lexus for clarification on this but if it’s true then the vehicle
will probably be sold exclusively in China and Southeast Asia. It is speculated
that the LM 350 and LM 300h names trademarked by Lexus last year could be used
on this rumored minivan.
This isn’t the
first time Lexus has indicated that it could be working on a minivan. As a
matter of fact, the president of Lexus Manila Raymond Rodriguez stated last
year that “it’s only a matter of time” before Lexus launches a luxurious
variant of the Toyota Alphard minivan. It is reported that a Lexus minivan
could help the car manufacturer snatch sales away from Mercedes-Benz which
sells luxurious vans throughout Asia.
