BMW has teased the new generation 1-Series on social media. In the pictures published on
Facebook by BMW France, the hatchback has completely lost its camo, revealing
the front end design officially for the first time. Compared to its
predecessor, it has new headlights, different bumper styling, muscular creases
on the bonnet and on the side and a bigger grille.
Judging by the black accents and sporty styling
trim, we’re probably looking at the M135i xDrive, a hot hatch that will rival
the likes of the Audi S3 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG A35. Its 2.0-liter turbo
four will reportedly come from the X2 M35i, where it produces 306 PS and 450 Nm of torque.
Other teaser images, released this time by BMW on
their official Facebook page, expose a camouflaged prototype, just as it was
getting its vinyl stickers. This image set also provides a look inside, with an engineer lifting
the cover off the dashboard and revealing the digital instrument cluster. This
feature will allow access to a number of different functions while also
displaying various information to the driver, including navigation directions.
The overall design of the cabin has been inspired by that of the new 3-Series.
The all-new 1-Series is expected to debut on May 27,
at a standalone event. Its public debut will be made at the 2019 Frankfurt
Motor Show, in September, and sales will commence before the end of the year.
