BMW is celebrating the 35th birthday of the iconic
M5 with the release of this, the 2020 BMW M5 Edition 35 Years. The car is based around the BMW
M5 Competition and features the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with
617 hp at 6,000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 5,860
rpm. This allows the potent sedan to accelerate to 96 km/h in just 3.1
seconds and 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds.
On the outside, the M5 Edition 35 Years is made
unique thanks to its BMW Individual Frozen Dark Grey II metallic paint. The
sedan is also outfitted with 20-inch M light alloy wheels finished in Graphite
Grey. There are also gloss black brake calipers and the removal of the M5 badge
at the rear.
As for the cabin, it includes a pair of M sports
seats finished in BMW Individual Merino black leather with contrasting beige
stitching. But what really stands out is the gold anodized aluminum carbon
structure that adorns the center console, door trim sections. There’s also a
new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that’s paired with the 10.3-inch
central display that was first seen on the X5 and 8-Series. Rounding up the
interior changes are the door sill plates and center console with an engraving
that reads ‘M5 Edition 35 Jahre.’
All 350 examples of the limited-edition M5 model
bound for the production line come with the Executive Package and M Driver’s
Package as standard. The first of these includes soft-close automatic doors, a
power rear sunshade and rear side window shades, front ventilated seats, 4-zone
automatic climate control, front massaging seats, and other features. As for
the M Driver’s Package, it raises the electronic top speed limiter from 250 km/h to 304 km/h. There is also a voucher for the M Driver’s
School at a BMW Performance Center in either Spartanburg or Thermal included.
Completing the upgrades made to the car include the
fitment of an M sport exhaust system and the latest Live Cockpit Professional
with the BMW iDrive 7 operating system. Just 35 units out of the 350 M5
Edition 35 Years are bound for the United States each with a starting price of US$ 128,995 including destination fees and the Gas Guzzler tax.
