Several new pictures of the 2020 BMW M8 Competition
have surfaced online. Noticed by BMW Blog, the images were apparently taken in South Africa
while the car was being shipped. Regardless, they provide a pretty revealing
look at the car’s front fascia and rear end. Starting front, the M8
Competition has been equipped with a unique bumper which is decidedly more
aggressive than the one used on the M850i. It features three large air intakes
with mesh inserts and gloss black scoops out the outside edges.
The model also has a revised gloss black grille
which should aid in cooling the car’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. Further
below, we can see what appears to be a carbon fiber front splitter. Styling changes are else
noticeable at the rear, but the M8 Competition has a four-tailpipe exhaust
system instead of the usual dual exhaust setup. The model also has a subtlety
revised bumper and triangular reflectors which are located where the vents on
the M850i are. Last but not least, the M8 adopts a unique rear diffuser with a
gloss black finish.
BMW has been tight-lipped about performance
specifications, but the M8 Competition is expected to use the same twin-turbo
4.4-liter V8 that powers the M5 Competition. This means the coupe should have
at least 617 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
While BMW hasn’t confirmed those numbers, the
company has already revealed the M8 Coupe and Convertible will have an
eight-speed Steptronic transmission and an M xDrive system with 2WD, 4WD and
4WD Sport modes. The model will also have a new setup button on the center
console which provides easy access to adjusting the engine, suspension, brakes,
steering and all-wheel drive settings.
