Cadillac is gearing up to introduce the CT4- and
CT5-V on May 30th and now the company has revealed a few details about what to
expect. In an interview with WKAR, Cadillac’s product manager for future
performance sedans said the cars will have “distinctive design elements” that
will separate them from their mainstream counterparts. Ken Kornas didn’t go
into specifics, but said the upcoming models will have a unique grille and
exhaust system.
Kornas also alluded to a number of other changes,
but didn’t elaborate. However, we can expect more aggressive bumpers, a rear
spoiler and possibly even a ventilated hood. The models should also have a
sportier suspension and unique alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber.
Both models will be launched early next year and
Kornas said they will be the “most affordable and accessible V-Series ever.”
That seems to suggest the CT4-V will undercut the 2019 ATS-V Coupe which starts
at US$ 67,795. Likewise, the CT5-V should be more affordable than the outgoing
CTS-V which begins at US$ 86,995.
Kornas didn’t talk about specifications, but said
the CT5-V is “going to provide everything that customers are looking for” from
a performance standpoint. That sounds promising, but the model has some pretty
big shoes to fill as CTS-V has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with 640 hp and 853 Nm of torque. This enables the sedan to
accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 3.7 seconds before hitting a top speed
of 322 km/h. It remains unclear what will power the CT5-V, but speculation points
to the twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8 that resides in the CT6. The engine produces 500
hp and 777 Nm of torque in standard form, while
the CT6-V is rated at 550 hp and 850 Nm of
torque.
The same engine could also be used in the CT4-V, but
it would likely have less power than the CT5-V. That remains unconfirmed, but
the ATS-V has a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 that develops 464 hp and 603 Nm of torque. This enables the model to run from 0-96 km/h in as little as 3.8 seconds.
