The GMC Sierra 1500 was redesigned last year and
it’s entering 2020 with a host of updates that aim to make the pickup even more
appealing. mOn the tech front, the 2020 Sierra will be offered
with an upgraded ProGrade Trailering System. Like the system offered on the
2020 Sierra HD, it supports up to 15 different cameras including those mounted
on trailers. Speaking of which, the model now offers a “transparent trailer
view” function which allows drivers to ‘see through’ their trailer thanks to
two cameras and some special software tricks.
The truck also gains an updated Trailering App which
allows users to create and edit trailer profiles through the myGMC mobile app.
Owners will also be able to share their trailer profiles and receive
maintenance reminders and mileage information.
Other tech updates include an Adaptive Cruise
Control Camera system which will be available on SLT, AT4 and Denali. The
system automatically adjusts the Sierra’s speed to match the flow of traffic
and it can even bring the truck to a complete stop. Engine options carryover, but the
5.3-liter V8 can now be paired to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The
gearbox is standard on the AT4 and Denali, but optional on SLE and above models
with four-wheel drive.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six sees greater
availability as it will now be available on AT4 and Denali models equipped with
the CarbonPro bed. This is a minor change, but it means diesel fans can now get
a carbon fiber bed to go with their Duramax engine which produces 277 hp and 623 Nm of torque.
Since the truck was all-new for 2019, styling
changes are limited. However, the Sierra AT4 CarbonPro Edition gets a slight
makeover as it now features a black chrome grille surround, modified badges and
black exhaust tips. Last but not least, trailer tow mirrors are now available as a
free-flow option and the Sierra Elevation will be offered in a crew cab
configuration.
