The next-gen 2020 Mahindra Scorpio (codename:
Mahindra Z101) has been spied testing for the first time. The spy shots have
been captured near Chengalpattu, where the Mahindra Research Valley R&D
centre is located. All updates until now have
brought little to distinguish from the original model. The spy shots suggest
that the next-gen model will be drastically different in the looks department.
The test mule was spotted in a heavily camouflaged
form, but still, some details can be easily figured out to get a fair idea of
what the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio has in stores for us. The 2020 Mahindra
Scorpio looks bigger than the outgoing model is 4,456 mm long, 1,820 mm wide
and 1,930 mm/1,995 mm tall and has a 2,680 mm wheelbase.
At the front, the next-gen model has new headlamps
that traditionally are larger and a new 7-slot radiator grille that is taller
in comparison to that of the outgoing model. On the sides, the belt line has a
more noticeable rise at the end of the rear doors, which appear to be bigger
and hint more space for the second-row passengers. At the rear, the redesigned
model's back glass isn't upright like that of the current model. It is slightly
rakish, giving the SUV more contemporary styling. All in all, the
next-gen model looks raw, rugged and dominating just the way one would expect.
Expect the interior to be completely new, replete with more advanced
connectivity technologies and comfort creatures than the outgoing model.
The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the
same all-new platform as the next-gen Mahindra Thar that is expected to debut
at Auto Expo 2020. It will employ an all-new BS-VI 2.0-litre diesel engine that
is expected to deliver a maximum power of 160 hp. This engine will be 80 kg
lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Also, its torque output will
likely be higher compared to the 2.2-litre mHawk unit's maximum available 320
Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is a given, and an automatic transmission
option is expected as an option. A 4WD system could be offered.
