Porsche 992-gen 911 Turbo and Turbo S prototypes
have been spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring and they appear to be
blisteringly fast around the dangerous and demanding German circuit.
The sports car manufacturer has been testing its new
pair of 911 Turbo models for quite some time and has also been putting the
latest-generation GT3 through its paces as well. However, whereas the new GT3
will stick to a naturally aspirated flat-six, the new Turbo and Turbo S will
feature tweaked versions of the twin-turbo 3.8-liter unit driving the current
models.
Porsche is expected to extract roughly 600 hp out of
the flat-six powering the ‘regular’ 911 Turbo, while the Turbo S could have
upwards of 650 hp. These figures, combined with all-wheel drive, should make
them the fastest accelerating non-GT 911s ever and result in some rather
impressive lap times at the Nurburgring.
The prototypes look
largely identical, but it appears that the Turbo S has a slightly larger rear
wing. Thanks to its advanced AWD and PDK transmission, there’s a chance it may
dip below 7 minutes at the ‘Ring, putting it within striking distance of the
track-focused GT2 RS.
